Background

Cordova Taekwondo was founded in 1991, and has since become the home of several national champions, a two-time world champion, and countless numbers of some of the hardest working Taekwondo students Memphis has to offer. Your school is an intricate part of the Choong-Sil Taekwondo Federation (CTF), our regional organization. Headed by Master Robert Hardin, 8th Degree Black Belt, the CTF is one of the fastest growing, most well respected organizations in the Southeastern United States. Though the majority of the affiliated schools are located in the Tennessee area, CTF schools can be found from Virginia to California. The organization plays host to approximately six tournaments a year, in which Cordova Taekwondo actively participates. As of 2002, we have set the record for tournament attendance and still remain extremely active in tournament competition year after year.

The Instructors of Cordova Taekwondo

Chris Miller – Chief Instructor - Cordova

In April 1998, Mr. Chris Miller and Mr. David Taylor, both long time students and instructors at Cordova Taekwondo, purchased the school from Mr. Gordon Cummings, founder of the school. On January 1, 2000, Mr. Miller became sole owner. Mr. Chris Miller began his training in May, 1986 at age 9 in Marietta, GA. He received his black belt in 1989 and was promoted to 4th Degree Black Belt in March of 1998. He is a Certified Instructor with the CTF. He was named 1998 CTF Tournament Referee of the Year. Mr. Miller received his Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Memphis in May of 2000. He has been teaching the art of Taekwondo since 1989.

Other Instructors

Part of being a black belt at Cordova Taekwondo includes, for some, the opportunity to instruct classes. A black belt who wishes to instruct must adhere to certain guidelines set forth by Mr. Miller and the CTF. Once the black belt has met those requirements, they earn a Red Collar on their uniform, signifying that he/she has an Assistant Instructor certification. (A Black Collar signifies a Certified Instructor.) Cordova Taekwondo is fortunate to have several Red Collar Instructors and potential Red Collar Instructors teaching at the school. Cordova Taekwondo allows only qualified, experienced instructors to head a class, therefore every student guaranteed the highest quality of instruction.
